Do I Worry? (MAMA), is a new performance work by Rebecca Bellantoni with Rowdy SS. The performance is first and foremost an acknowledgement of the length and ongoing nature of the worry. It honours the generations of Black resistance, joy, creativity and determination.
-
The work has deep roots in the lives of Black people and the role of spirituality, religion and music/sound in our experience. The work speaks to the boundless nature of Blackness as life and theory.
The title is taken from Scotty’s 1968 song, I Worry. It is a classic in the canon of early Reggae, Rebecca’s first musical love and a music of resistance, love and power.
