Cherelle Sappleton British, b. 1984

Osscilating between the abstract, absurd and abject, Sappleton’s practice is centred
in photography, moving image and collage with an interest in feminist agendas and
performance. Using the black female body as a starting point, her work explores and responds to issues of representation and agency. Through interrogating the materiality of the photograph by intervening with and distorting images of the body, she aims to present identity as unfixed and resolved.
